Construction Update: July 12, 2021

07.12.2021

We wanted to check in with a status update from our work sites on Newport Avenue Extension.

Steady progress is being made at both sites as our construction team works to install manholes and conduit between our work sites at 100 Newport Avenue Extension and near the intersection of Newport Avenue Extension and West Squantum Street.

We’d like to thank the Quincy Police Department for their support in facilitating traffic management and ensuring the overall safety of the work sites.

Barring inclement weather, or other extenuating circumstances, you can expect to see continued activity at both work sites throughout the month as our team works to stay on schedule and complete the vast majority of construction on this section of the route by the end of July.

As previously mentioned, ongoing construction includes open-trench excavation, manhole installation, HDD, and a number of HDD associated activities. You can learn more about these construction methods by viewing the videos below.

Please note that police details will continue to be present at our work sites to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian traffic management. We kindly ask drivers and those on foot to exercise caution when approaching these active work areas to minimize risks to personal safety, and to avoid any interference with construction.

Additionally, please know that we remain committed to prioritizing public health as well as the health of employees and contractors. National Grid has taken several steps to modify our business practices and daily operations to protect the communities in which we work. We have enacted additional policies and guidelines for our field and office personnel that are in line with the Commonwealth’s Guidelines and Procedures for construction as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidelines.
