Project Update: June 6, 2022

06.06.2022

With the first manhole of phase two of the North Quincy Cable Project already installed, this week our crews will continue excavation as they prepare to install a second on Newport Avenue (between Holbrook Road and Wilson Avenue). For a closer look at this section of the project route, click here to view our online map.

As was the case with last week’s manhole installation, traffic will be maintained in both directions during the vast majority of manhole installation activity. That said – on Thursday, June 9 between 9:30AM and 11:00AM – when manholes are being lowered into excavations, Newport Avenue traffic will be detoured. We ask that drivers and pedestrians be mindful of lane shifts, posted traffic signage, and the direction of police details stationed around the work zone. Week of June 6: Construction Activity

  • Excavation and manhole installation #2 on Newport Avenue (between Holbrook Road and Wilson Avenue).

Looking further ahead in the project schedule, barring unforeseen issues, during the week of June 13 crews will shift the manhole installation operation down Newport Avenue to a work site between N. Central Avenue and Elmwood Avenue. We look forward to sharing more information regarding the traffic management plan at that site in future updates.

Please know that construction is scheduled to minimize the impact on traffic and everyday life; sections of your street will likely only be impacted by the construction for weeks—not years. That said, we understand that construction doesn’t always feel “short-term” when it’s in front of your home or business. As work begins in your area, we will continue to work to mitigate inconveniences that come up to the greatest extent feasible. Please let us know about upcoming deliveries, schedules, and events that could be impacted by work.
